Dance Company of Sanctuary

Since Company of Others was created in 2016, we have collaborated with people Seeking Sanctuary in every strand of our artistic programme. We believe that everyone deserves to have a life that is more than survival–one that is enriched, connected with others and filled with joy. This belief is deeply embedded in our artistic work created by our Artistic Director & CEO, Nadia Iftkhar, which led us to become a Dance Company of Sanctuary in 2023–one of the achievements we are most proud of.

We ensure all of our projects are accessible and welcoming to people Seeking Sanctuary, while also running projects designed specifically for them.

We actively listen to the experiences of people Seeking Sanctuary in the North East to strengthen how we support and celebrate them.

As a Global Majority-led company built as a space for those who have been Othered by the society we live in, our commitment to people Seeking Sanctuary has been at our core long before receiving the Sanctuary Award. Becoming a Dance Company of Sanctuary has allowed us to connect with other Sanctuary organisations in Newcastle and City of Sanctuary itself, sharing knowledge, resources, and support.

Arts & Culture Booklet for People Seeking Sanctuary

Created by Company of Others, with contributions from our partners in the Culture and Sanctuary Network, our Arts & Culture booklet is part of our ongoing commitment to making arts and culture more accessible to people Seeking Sanctuary in the North East.

This booklet provides information on free arts and cultural opportunities, including dance, theatre, music, and gardening, as well as regular activities and one-time event. It also includes details on how to access free tickets to arts and cultural spaces in the region.

The booklet will be published three times a year, with each edition covering a four-month period. The first edition runs from February to May 2025, and the next will be released for June to September 2025.
